Graveside services for Margaret Smith, 85, of Portales, were held at 2:00 PM, Sat., July 10, 2021 in the Portales Cemetery with Rev. Brad Morgan officiating. Keegan Tucker, Koby Smith, Clay Smith, Kyler Smith, Jaelynn Tucker and Christopher Tucker served as pallbearers.
Margaret Ann Smith was born Aug 14, 1935, in Seminole, OK to the home of Ola Mae (Love) and Fred Conley and died late on the evening of July 7, 2021 in Portales, NM. Mrs. Smith grew up in Portales, and graduated from Portales High School in 1953. On Dec. 12, 1954, she was married to Unis “Sonny” Smith. Their home was blessed with five children, three sons and two daughters. She was a busy wife and mother raising her children, and later caring for grandchildren. Mrs. Smith was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed watching all sorts of sporting events on television. She and her family enjoyed numerous camping and fishing trips together. She was reared in the Baptist church.
She is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Wayne Smith of Lubbock, TX, Kenny ad Carrie Sue Smith and Eddie Smith of Portales; a daughter and son-in-law, Joe Ann and Mack Tucker of Portales; six grandchildren, Keegan Tucker, Whitney Sedillo, Ashley Turnbow, Koby Smith, Clay Smith and Kyler Smith; three brothers, Bill Conley of Moses Lake, WA, Chuck Conley of Palm Springs, CA and James (Jeanne) Conley of Abilene, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Fred Conley, a sister “Boots” Garner, two grandchildren, Tommy Tucker and Clinton Smith, a daughter, Sandy Nash who died in 2013 and by her husband, Sonny Smith who died June 16, 1987 after more than 23 years of marriage.
