Greatest Greyhound Cameron Brennan
Manyweather of Eastern New Mexico football becomes the 77th Male Greatest Greyhound in the history of Eastern New Mexico University while Gannon of women’s volleyball becomes the 42nd Female Greatest Greyhound in the university’s history. The Greatest Greyhound awards date back to 1940-41 on the men’s side and 1978-79 on the women’s side and is presented to a male and female Eastern New Mexico student-athlete every year that displayed the highest degree of athletic achievement, academic success, leadership qualities, community involvement and positive representation of Eastern New Mexico University. The award is voted on by ENMU head coaches and administrative staff.
JUSTIN MANYWEATHER
Manyweather ended his Greyhound career with a phenomenal season as the leading receiver and kick returner for Eastern. The Los Angeles, Calif. native is the fourth ENMU football student-athlete to receive the Greatest Greyhound honor in the last five awards. The senior paced the Hounds with a season high 751 receiving yards, 11 receiving touchdowns, and 48 receptions. In the return game, Manyweather picked up 322 kick-return yards with one kick-return touchdown and 131 punt-return yards. Manyweather hauled in over 100 receiving yards in four games including a career best 246 yards and 15 catches against Western New Mexico, where he was named LSC Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts for the conference office.
Around the Lone Star Conference, Manyweather was recognized as the LSC Receiver of the Year and named to the LSC All-Conference Offense First Team in 2021. During the season, Manyweather led all receivers in the conference with 75.1 receiving yards per game (YD/G) and 11 receiving touchdowns. In terms of game highs, Manyweather set a handful of single game high during the LSC season. He finished tied for first in a single game for points (18, twice), touchdowns (3, twice), receiving yards (246 yards), receptions (15), longest reception (95 yards), and all-purpose yards (252 yards). Additionally, Manyweather garnered All-LSC Honorable mention honors in 2019, and was named LSC Special Team Player of the Week in Oct. 2019.
During the 2021 season, Manyweather re-wrote several single game and season records in the ENMU program. Manyweather owns three single game records: 15 receptions at Western N.M., 246 receiving yards at Western New Mexico, and 3 TD receptions vs Lincoln (CA) and 3 TD receptions vs Adams St. Manyweather also recorded the 2nd longest reception (95 yards vs Central Washington), 6th most all-purpose yards in a game (252 yards vs Central Washington), 5th longest kick-off return (94 yards vs Texas A&M-Kingsville) for a single game. In terms of season records, 11 TDs are the 3rd most in a single season, the most by an ENMU receiver since 1985.
Manyweather finishes his Eastern career with 18 total touchdowns (13 receiving, 3 rushing, 1 punt return, and 1 kick-off return). In total, Manyweather has accumulated 998 receiving yards, 417 kick-off return yards, 340 rushing yards, 229 punt return yards, for a total of 1,984 all-purpose yards. In terms of career records, Manyweather holds 10.00 yards per rush, which is second most all-time in career records, and 13 touchdowns receptions is 9th most all-time.
JASMINE GANNON
Gannon capped off a four-season career with the Greyhounds as the team’s leader on offense and defense in 2021. Gannon is the first volleyball student-athlete to receive the honor since Lauryn Frye won the award in 2016 and 2017. In 2021, the Clovis, N.M native led the Greyhounds squad in kills (284), kills per set (2.93 k/s), points (333.0), points per set (3.43), and digs (268). The outside hitter also posted 27 service aces (2nd on team), 0.28 service aces per set (2nd on team), and 2.76 digs per set (2nd on team). Gannon recorded over 10 kills on 15 occasions, nine double-doubles, with a season high 18 kills against Texas A&M-International (10/29) and a season best 20 digs against DBU (11/12).
In the LSC, Gannon finished the 2021 season as one of the top offensive players in the conference, earning All-LSC Second team. Gannon finished 13th in the conference for both points (333.0) and kills per set (2.93), 21st in service aces per set (0.28), and 30th in hitting percentage (.229). In their career, Gannon has been awarded several honors from the Lone Star Conference being named to the All-LSC First Team and All-Academic Team in 2018, the All-Tournament team in 2018 and 2021, and landing on the LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll seven times.
After the 2021 season, Gannon has accumulated several single game and career records. From the service line, Gannon is tied for 1st with six service aces in a single match (10/23), which also stands as the most service aces in a four-set match. In terms of career records, Gannon sits 2nd in program history for kills (1,175), attack attempts (3,268), points (1,314), and sets played (423). Additionally, Gannon is 6th for matches played with 112 and 10th for kills per set (2.78)
Over four seasons, Gannon totaled 112 games in a Greyhound uniform, playing in 423 sets. Offensively, Gannon notched 1,175 kills with 2.78 kills per set, adding 55 service aces, totaling 1,314.0 points and 3.11 points per set. On the defensive side, Gannon collected 794 digs and held 1.88 digs per set. In 2021, Gannon recorded their best season for hitting percentage, assists, service aces, digs, digs per set, and blocks per set.
Manyweather and Gannon will each be honored at the annual Hall of Honors banquet that will take place on a date to be determined.
