M A Socorro Alva de Torres Obituary
Funeral services for M A Socorro Alva de Torres, 71, of Portales will be held at 10:00 AM, Thurs., Dec. 5, 2024 at the Iglesia Baptista el Divino Salvador with Rev. Candeleria Renova officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Jose Manuel Torres, Sabino Torres, Benito Torres, Luis Fernando Torres, Ismael Machado, Jr. and Jenaro Acosta serving as pallbearers. Mrs. Alva de Torres will be taken to the church on Tuesday morning, and will remain there until service time.
Maaria Socorro Alva de Torres was born Feb. 9, 1953 in Santa Maria de la Paz Mexico to the home of Magdelena Alvarado and Marcelo Alva, and died Nov. 30, 2024 in Lubbock, TX. In May of 1967, she was married to Jose Torres Valenzuela. They made their home in Bermejillo, Durango, Mexico until moving to Portales in 2012. Mrs. Alva de Torres was a devout Christian, and freely shared her faith with others. She was a faithful member of Iglesia Baptista el Divino Salvado. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing, listening to music, shopping, and working in her flower garden. Mrs. Alva de Torres was an excellent cook, and loved cooking for her entire family. They particularly liked her empanadas and tamales. She treasured getting to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by Jose Torres Valenzuela, her husband of more than 57 years; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Jose Manuel Torres, Sabino Torres, Benito and Georgina Torres and Luis Fernando and Socorro Torres all of Portales; four daughters and sons-in-law, Yolanda and Ismael Machado, Maria Guadalupe and Juan Ramon Acosta and Marcela and Porfirio Delgado all of Portales and Raquel Torres and Moises Rosales of Mexico; 21 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Antonio Alva and Manuel Alva both of Mexico; and five sisters, Juana Alva, Anastacia Alva, Magdalena Alva and Beatrice Alva of Mexico and Francisca Alva of Portales. She was preceded in death by both of her parents.
