Eastern New Mexico softball dropped a pair of non-conference games against Lubbock Christian University, 8-0 (6 Inn.) and 5-1, on Sunday afternoon at PlainsCapital Park. Eastern slip to 7-9 on the season, and the Lady Chaps move to 14-2 overall.
GAME ONE: LCU 8, ENMU 0 (6 INN.)
The Hounds scattered two hits in the first inning, with Lisette Urquidez and Azalea Martinez each posting singles. However, the ENMU stranded both runners on the base paths in the top of the first. LCU scored the games first runs in the bottom of the first frame, taking a 2-0 lead after the first inning.
The Chaps posted two runs in the following inning, jumping out to a 4-0 lead. Eastern tried to respond in the third after Sierra Wooley reached on an infield single, but the Hounds weren’t able to hit the Chaps pitching.
Lubbock Christian added one run in the fifth inning and three runs in the sixth, taking the game by a final score of 8-0 in six innings.

Urquidez, Martinez, and Wooley picked up the Hounds three hits during the game.

Taylor Harrison receives the loss after going a third of an inning with allowing two runs from two hits and three walks. Urquidez finished the game in relief, throwing 5.1 innings allowing six runs and recording two strikeouts.

Taylor Franco picked up the win in the circle during a complete effort. Franco allowed three hits and three walks in six innings.
GAME TWO: LCU 5, ENMU 1
In the second inning, the Hounds found an early base runner after Brook Leger doubled into left center as the leadoff hitter. ENMU was able to move Leger to third on a wild pitch, but could bring the runner home as the Chaps escaped. Lubbock Christian also a had a runner in scoring position during the second and third inning, but the Eastern defensive kept the score at 0-0 after two innings.
However, the scoreless game ended in the fourth inning for both teams. Urquidez reached base with a double, then Bella Mendoza singled to left field to send the runner home. Lubbock Christian bounced back in the next half inning, profiting off a pair of single.
The Greyhounds put runners on base again in the fifth, but wasn’t able to send a run across the plate in the 5th. Torianna Borunda and Mikenzey Patterson each reached base and advanced to third base and second base, respectively, with one out. A pitching change from LCU shutdown the Eastern hitting to keep the score at 1-1 heading to the bottom of the 5th.
From then, Lubbock Christian posted four hits in the 5th inning and scored three runs to take a 4-1 advantage. LCU added an insurance run in the 6th inning, as the Lady Chaps took game two by a score of 5-1.

Leger takes the loss for the Hounds, finishing with four runs allowed from seven hits and recording seven strikeouts.

Taylor Franco receives the win in 2.1 innings of relief. Franco allowed two runs and held Eastern scoreless.

Andraya Alvarado made their first career start in a Hound uniform, and Lopez recorded their first collegiate hit.

Urquidez threw a season high 5.1 innings during game one, and posted their seventh multi-hit game of the season during the game two.

The Hounds open Lone Star Conference play on Friday, Mar. 4, against #25 Texas A&M-Commerce. Friday’s game will be the home opener as the Greyhound will play on the newly renovated infield for the first time, first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2 pm.
