The Lone Star Conference recently announced the 2022 Baseball Preseason Poll on Thursday afternoon. Eastern New Mexico was picked to finish 13th with 47 points.
Angelo State University picked up first place honors in the poll with 27 first place votes and 452 total points. West Texas A&M University was close behind in second place with five first place votes and 432 points. Rounding out the top-three was the University of Texas at Tyler with 364 points.
Texas A&M University-Kingsville earned fourth place with three first place votes and 360 points, while Oklahoma Christian University was selected to finish fifth with 315 points.
The conference also announced two preseason awards. Carson Childers of Angelo State was selected as the Preseason Pitcher of the Year, while the Rams’ Aaron Walters was named Preseason Player of the Year.
ENMU will look to improve upon the 2021 season that saw the Greyhounds finish the year with an 8-30 overall record and 7-28 mark in LSC play.
In 2022, Eastern has 50 contests on the schedule, 48 of which are LSC contests and two non-conference games. Fans will have the opportunity to see Eastern play at Greyhound Baseball Field over seven different weekends throughout the season.
The Hounds open the 2022 season on the road at St. Edward’s University February 4-6. ENMU’s first home games of the season will be Feb. 11-13 when West Texas A&M travels to Portales.
