Funeral Services for Loy Van Askew, 62, of Portales NM will be held at 2.00 PM, Saturday, November 30, 2024, in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Mike Tucker officiating.
Honorary Pallbearers are Jason Renfro, Randy Mitchell, Blake Bunch, Dylan Bunch, Rhet Roberts, Ky Mitchell, Kanyon Renfro, Kevin Pate, Marty Millar, Nicky Millar, Micah McCoy, James Naimi, Mark Littlejohn, Robert Pena, Larry Ervin and Mike Tucker.
Loy Van Askew was born February 26, 1962, in Portales New Mexico, to the home of Ernest Win Askew and Jane (Millar) Askew, and died on November 23, 2024, in Portales New Mexico.
Van and his family lived in Garrison, New Mexico until 1973, when the family moved to Portales, New Mexico, where he attended Portales Public Schools. Van graduated from Portales High School in 1980. Soon after graduation Van moved to Ruidoso, New Mexico.
Van was a very fun loving, kind and gentle soul. Adored his family and many friends dearly. He was always there to help anyone. He very much loved his nieces and nephews. He was not only referred to as Uncle Van, but also Uncle Bunny.
He worked as a cook at Cattle Baron Restaurant then later followed in his father’s footsteps in the Construction Industry, which was his passion. Van was a Master Craftsman, and his work was done with perfection and detail. Van enjoyed gardening and always shared vegetables from his garden with family, friends and neighbors. He enjoyed cooking and visiting with his longtime nearest and dearest friends.
He is survived by his sister Jan (Blake) Bunch of Decatur, Alabama. Exa Kay (Randy) Mitchell of Clovis New Mexico and Edie Gay (Jason) Renfro of Clovis, New Mexico. His nieces and nephews, whom he adored, Blakeley Bunch, Marc (Amanda) Haufmann, Ky (Rebekah) Mitchell, Rhet Roberts and partner Kevin Pate, Macy (Micah) McCoy, Dylan Bunch and Kanyon Renfro; great nieces and nephews, Zander Fleming, Mila Mitchell, Miles Mitchell, Owen Haufmann, Jade McCoy and Forrest McCoy.
We would like to give special thanks to Mike and Donna Tucker, Van thought the world of you.
Van is preceded in death by his parents Ernest Win Askew and Margaret Jane (Jim) Scott, his grandparents Guy and Nettie Rebecca Millar and Dell and Gladys Marie Askew, Evelyn Kiker (Aunt), Kelly Askew (Uncle) and a cousin Mac Millar.
