LAS VEGAS, NEV.-In the seventh inning of Sunday afternoon’s game, senior centerfielder Ashley Lopez extended her homerun streak to three straight games. The Eastern New Mexico softball team (1-4) pounded out eight hits but dropped a 9-6 heartbreaker on a walk-off grand slam to San Francisco State (1-4).
Lopez’s three-game homerun streak is the longest since Erikka Burke homered in three games against Western New Mexico and New Mexico Highlands, last February.
The Key Plays
- Eastern faced a 2-1 deficit but sent nine batters to the plate in the sixth inning and capitalized on two Gator errors with four runs on five hits to seize a 5-2 lead
- Samantha Glover had a RBI double in the inning
- Samantha Brockman had a pinch-hit, two-run single
- Kianna Zerr squeezed in a run
- Katie Rohrer’s one-out, two run single pulled SFSU within 5-4 in the bottom of the frame
- After a Michelle Castro single to tie the game, Rohrer belted a grand slam to left field to end the game
