Dear Community,
With Fall semester completed, grades turned in and students, faculty and staff looking forward to a much-deserved winter break, I gratefully acknowledge two groups–the ENMU family who stepped up in the true Greyhound spirit to support students in these challenging times and the community of Roosevelt County that stood with us in these past months. Your resilience and hard work set a standard that we aspire to follow.

This fall, 493 ENMU students earned their degrees, 55 graduating with honors. During the semester, the College of Fine Arts successfully staged two virtual theatre performances, hosted several art shows and workshops, and presented many virtual music performances. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences congratulated seven fall 2020 Electronics Engineering Technology graduates who secured full-time jobs in their field at salaries of $75,000 plus. The Speech and Hearing Rehab Outreach Clinic dramatically increased its telepractice this fall, providing services to school children and clients via video-conferencing. The College of Education and Technology supported school districts in New Mexico and West Texas offering tutoring services to K-12 students. Special education majors worked with special needs students both virtually and in person. The ENMU College of Business saw increased enrollment in their MBA program this fall.

These successes and the promising COVID vaccines make us confident we can move to a larger on-campus footprint this spring and next fall 2021. This spring, we will host face-to-face classes in Fine Arts, EET and Agriculture. We will continue to build on our expertise in online teaching and technology, supply laptops to students in need, and offer online activities, events, meetings and social gatherings to keep students connected and successful. We will continue to staff the Golden Student Success Center so students can come, study, and receive tutoring.

While our on-campus residence halls remain closed, we will house students needing accommodations this spring in West Campus apartments, equipped with full kitchens.

This fall brought unprecedented challenges, and spring will require continued flexibility and resilience. But with challenges come opportunities — new ways of teaching and learning, new research questions to be answered, new dimensions of performance to master, new ways of engaging and supporting each other. At Eastern New Mexico University, we are committed to look beyond today’s limitations to tomorrow’s opportunities.

If you have questions about the University’s plans for 2021, please visit the ENMU Spring 2021 COVID-19 Health Advisory page which is regularly updated as more information becomes available, or email ENMU.President@enmu.edu.  Thank you for your continued support. The entire ENMU community and I wish all of you a healthy and safe holiday season.  We see ahead a 2021 that is bright with hope.

Sincerely,
Dr. Patrice Caldwell
President
