Memorial services for Lois Folkner, 98, of Portales, will be at 10:00 A.M., Tues., Oct. 10, 2017 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Dee Lancaster officiating. Private burial services will follow in the Portales Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Portales Valley Church of Christ, 1809 2nd Street, Portales, NM 88130.

Lois Pauline Martin Folkner passed away on October 5, 2017 at Wheatfields Senior Living Center in Clovis, New Mexico. Lois was born on January 17, 1919 in Afton, Texas to D.X. Martin and Minnie Martin. She had eight brothers and sisters. The family moved to Dora, New Mexico, where Lois was Valedictorian of her graduating class.

Lois married Ray Folkner on June 13, 1937. They lived in the area of La Mesa, Texas until 1940 when they moved to San Diego, California to work in the World War II aircraft factories. In 1942 they moved to Phoenix, Arizona to work in a new defense plant and, in 1945, to Santa Ana, California where Ray worked at Douglas Aircraft until peace was declared. In 1946 Ray built an auto mechanics shop in Tustin, California, and Lois helped manage the several apartment complexes that Ray built.

In 1948 Lois and Ray adopted a daughter, Trionne, and in 1951 adopted a son, Troy. They remained in Southern California until relocation to Portales, New Mexico in 1964, where they built apartments, operated a farm and were active members of the Church of Christ.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, her daughter, Trionne, and seven of her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by a sister, Ethel Mullins, of Portales, New Mexico and son, Troy, (Laura) Folkner of Cupertino, California. Surviving grandchildren are Brian Jurgensmeyer (Margie) of Manhattan, Kansas and Tahnee Stockton (Paul) of Redding, California. Surviving great-grandchildren are Brianna Tate (Justin), Bethany Lee, Brooke Lee and Kiersten Jurgensmeyer and great-great grandson, Spencer Tate.
