Clovis, NM – Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Quentin Ray, announced that a jury found Lloyd Edwards guilty of Voluntary Manslaughter on February 26, 2025, following a three-day jury trial.
The trial was held in connection with the stabbing death of Edwards’ wife, Roxie Edwards, at the Love’s Travel Stop in Clovis on January 18, 2023. Edwards called 911 to report his wife was bleeding and had been stabbed in the neck. Upon arrival at law enforcement, Edwards told multiple inconsistent stories regarding the incident. The victim, Roxie Edwards, was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center where she later succumbed to her injuries. At trial, evidence was presented that a knife with the victim’s blood was found in Edwards’ possession.
The jury found Edwards not guilty of second-degree murder which carried a possible 15-year prison sentence. Instead, they convicted him of the lesser included charge of voluntary manslaughter, for which he now faces a maximum penalty of 6 years in the Department of Corrections. District Attorney Ray expressed his disappointment at only securing a guilty verdict on the lesser charge but stated, “I still respect the jury’s decision.”
Sentencing is scheduled for March 17, 2025, with the Honorable Drew D. Tatum presiding.
The case was prosecuted by District Attorney Quentin Ray and Assistant District Attorney Anthony Jaimes. The defendant was represented by Jacob Ort and Dallas Alfarro from the Law Office of the Public Defender.
