PORTALES, NM – Feb. 25, 2022 – The Eastern New Mexico University Department of Music, and the Department of Theatre and Digital Filmmaking are proud to present “Little Women: The Broadway Musical.”
Eastern’s production opens Thursday, March 3 at 7 p.m. at the University Theatre Center (UTC), with additional evening performances March 4 and 5, finishing with a matinee show at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 6. General admission is $10 or $7 for senior citizens age 60 and up and active military. Tickets can be purchased at the door before the event or reserved by calling the UTC box office at 575.562.2711.
The musical is directed by Dr. Travis Sherwood, with musical direction by Dr. Gregory Gallagher. Each performance features a pre-show lecture given by Dr. Linda Sumption, associate professor in the University’s Department of English, about the original novel “Little Women” written by Louisa May Alcott.
“Little Women: The Broadway Musical” began life as a book by Allen Knee and features music by Jason Howland. The story focuses on the four March sisters and their beloved mother, Marmee, and their time living in Concord, Massachusetts, while their father is away serving in the American Civil War.
“It is a distinct pleasure to bring “Little Women: The Broadway Musical” to the ENMU campus,” Sherwood said. “This unique collaborative production has united the performing forces of students and faculty throughout the College of Fine Arts to bring you the grandest theatric musical production ENMU has presented in more than a decade.”
