Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce’s Ambassadors announce the upcoming deadline for girls age
5-10 to enter the 2023 Little Miss Merry Christmas Contest.
As a part of Portales’ holiday tradition, the Little Miss Merry Christmas Contest fundraises for Christmas
lighting programs and the annual Portales fireworks fund. The contest runs from Thursday, Nov. 2 until 5
p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 29. An official pre-parade Coronation Ceremony and reception will take place at
the Yam Theatre, on Thursday, Nov. 30 at 6 p.m. The Christmas Jubilee and Lighted Christmas Parade
will be Friday, Dec. 1 at 6:30 p.m. starting at the ENMU Theater and ending with the girls getting off the
float at the Chamber. Activities on the square begin at 6 p.m.
The contestant that raises the most money through donations collected by her sponsor and through
additional fundraising efforts will be crowned Little Miss Merry Christmas with all runners-up receiving the
title of Princess. Previous winners, those who were crowned Little Miss Merry Christmas, are ineligible to
re-enter the contest. Last year the contest raised over $7,500.
All contestants must attend an information meeting at the Chamber of Commerce, 100 South Avenue A,
at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2. Photos of the contestants will be taken for use by the media. Each
contestant should have her completed entry form and sponsor at that time.
Celebrating its 36th year, the Portales Christmas Jubilee is a holiday family tradition with music and
goodies on the Square in downtown Portales. The highlight is the Lighted Parade with Little Miss Merry
Christmas and her royal court leading the parade. Santa Claus will ride in the parade as well. There is no
entry fee for the parade but registration is required.
Entry forms and detailed information for both the Little Miss Merry Christmas Contest and the Lighted
Christmas Parade can be picked up at the Chamber 100 S. Ave. A, or call 356-8541 and the forms can
be emailed or faxed. They can also be downloaded from the community calendar at portales.com
