Obituary
A graveside committal service for Linda Vernon, 73, of Portales, will be announced at a later time.
Linea Kay Vernon was born July 10, 1950 in Portales to the home of Pauline and Henry Calvin Vernon, and died Oct. 19, 2023. Linda grew up in Portales and graduated from Portales High Schol in 1968. Her first husband was Charlie Fisher, and they had a daughter, Gail. In 1971, she was married to Ray Terry and together, they had a son, Joseph. For a period of time, she and husband were employed at the New Mexico Christian Children’s Home as house parents. During those years, they unofficially “adopted” Margaret Campbell as a part of their family. In 1979, she moved to Roswell, and while living there she worked at what was at that time, Price’s Truck Stop as a waitress and cook. In 1985, she returned to Portales, and has made this her home since then. For a number of years, Linda was active in the Ladies’ Hospital Auxiliary, but withdrew to give care to her grandson and his health problems.
She is survived by her son, Joseph Terry of Portales; her adopted daughter, Margaret Campbell, also of Portales; three grandchildren, Clifton Ham, Bobby Terry and Brianna Horning; two foster grandchildren, Rhiannon Shafer and Brandon Bennink and two foster great—grandchildren, Niveah and Avah Pacheco; and a brother, Calvin Vernon of Sudan, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Della Kobernick and a daughter, Gail Terry.
