A fellowship lunch in memory of of Leon Angevine, 70, of Portales will be held at 12 noon, Fri., April 28, 2017 at the Floyd Senior Citizen Building. There will be a Memorial Gathering at 4:00 PM, Fri., April 28, 2017 at the family home, 2588 S. Roosevelt Rd 3, with Wayne Kinman officiating.
Leon Kenneth Angevine was born Nov. 19, 1946 in Johnson City, NY to the home of Marjorie Ellen (Rigsbee) and Harry Kenneth Angevine and died April 23, 2017 in Portales, NM. Leon grew up in Peasleeville, NY and graduated from Peru High School. He was a gifted athlete, and played football. Leon went to Penn State University on a full football scholarship, and during his senior year, played on the winning team at the Orange Bowl. He went on to earn a Master’s degree, and then coached and taught P.E. from elementary grades through high school in the Peru School System until his retirement in 2005. Leon coached football, track, softball and basketball teams for both boys and girls during his career.
On Nov. 21, 1990, he was married to Susan Sayward. After Mr Angevine retired, they moved to Portales, NM to make their home to be close to their daughter who was attending Eastern New Mexico University. Leon’s passion was training, riding and showing horses. He built his business strictly by word of mouth. Leon was known to be a man of few words, but when he spoke they were always gentle, kind and patient, and were filled with wisdom and meaning.
He is survived by his wife, Susan of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Travis and Michelle Angevine of St. John’s, FL; three daughters and sons-in-law, Katrina and Robert Krasinski of Lancaster, PA, Sarah and Johnathan Forbes of Morrisonville, NY and Kate and Ben Sanchez of Matador, TX; seven grandchildren, Ty Michael Angevine, Rebekah, Hannah and Robby Krasinski, Conner and Ryleigh Perrotte and Clara Forbes and another expected in Sept of this year; and two sisters, Sally (Leonard) Sayward of Lockport, NY and Joyce Dufty of Hoosick Falls, NY.
