Session ends in usual flurry
Lawmakers finally got around to burning some midnight oil and when they did it was all about taxes. After getting sent back to the table by the Governor the House and the Senate finally compromised enough to make everyone but Republicans happy. in the end rebates stayed at $500 per person. the proposal would cost taxpayers $450 million next year and grow to $1 billion in four years.
Budget bill lands on Gov’s desk with thump
After some back and forth and a slight bit of cutting the House finally agreed to a $9.57 billion budget. That is roughly a 14 percent increase over the previous budget and quite a bit higher than both the projected budget by the Governor’s office and the LFC.

It is far enough out of line with the Governor’s wishes that some fear a powerful use of line-item vetoes. That always has local legislators nervous.
