PORTALES, N.M. – On Monday, the Lone Star Conference released a list of 21 Scholar Athletes from 11 institutions. Eastern New Mexico University was well represented by Jordan Wade and Courtney Lawson. Over four years, the duo represented the Greyhound program well and competed in a combined 162 games.

Each academic year, the LSC presents a Scholar-Athlete Award to one male and one female student-athlete at each member institution. These student-athletes are selected as representatives of the outstanding accomplishments in athletics, scholarship and leadership that are displayed on each LSC campus during the year. To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must have participated at least two years in their sport and be a member of the graduating class.

Courtney Lawson was named the LSC Academic Player of the Year with a perfect 4.0 GPA over her four-year career at ENMU. Her selection as volleyball’s Academic Athlete of the Year marked the fourth time she had been chosen for the honor. The psychology major also earned Honorable Mention All-LSC for her standout play on the court. The Rio Rancho, NM, native had 153 kills in conference play and added 16 aces and 203 digs to help the ‘Hounds to a fourth-place finish in regular season action.

Jordan Wade, a criminal justice major with an emphasis in forensics, earned Honorable Mention laurels for his efforts at offensive tackle. His blocking helped the Greyhounds rank second in the nation in rushing yards per game and 20th in total offense. Eastern also led the LSC in both of those categories. Eastern’s offense also ranked third in the LSC in scoring.
