Larry Powell Obituary

With love and gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Larry Don Powell who joined the stars on February 17, 2025 at the age of 71. Larry was born on July 28, 1953 in Roswell, NM to Everett and Edith Powell. He is survived by Lana Powell (wife), Allison and Haley Powell (daughters), Linda and Robert Bodwell (sister and brother-in-law), Bobby, Jeff and Jon Bodwell (Nephews), Kat Bodwell (Niece), and Chris Hickerson (nephew).

Larry was known by all who knew him to be a cheerful, intelligent, and kind person. As a devoted family man, his life was centered around his wife and daughters. A teacher for over 34 years, he dedicated his working days to the success of his students and making learning (mostly science) fun. Those close to Larry know he had excellent taste in music (some of his favorites were Bob Dylan, The Beatles, and The Clash) and often amused himself with his own sense of humor. His constant whistling, singing, and jokes will be missed and always remembered with a smile.

Larry and his wife, Lana, shared 42 wonderful years of marriage together. Their life together was a testament to the strength of love and the power of shared dreams. Married in their mid/late twenties, Larry and Lana shared a partnership that was felt between them as true love, respect, and friendship. They shared 9 years of adventures before embarking on the ultimate adventure of parenthood. Larry’s greatest pride was being a father to his daughters, Allison and Haley Powell. He is lovingly remembered by them for his unwavering love, creativity, and “dad jokes.” The love and wisdom he shared with his daughters will forever serve as a living example, shaping their lives with his presence in their hearts forever.

In addition to his immediate family, Larry is profoundly missed by his sister, Linda, and her family. Linda fondly recalls their childhood days spent outdoors with friends, and has watched with pride as Larry excelled academically from a young age and grew into a successful husband, father, and educator. To his nephews and niece, Larry was known as “Uncle Bo”, and is remembered for being the “cool, groovy uncle.”

Larry deeply valued his friendships, whether from his early years or later in life. His friends were a source of joy and support, and he will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
