After a first round bye, the #4 seed Portales Lady Rams faced #5 Albuquerque Academy, a private school, in the second round of the NMAA Class 4A State Tournament on November 14. Portales fell in the first set by just a few points, however Albuquerque Academy dominated the following 2 sets and won the game 3-0.
The first set score was 25-20. The second was 25-10, and the third was 25-8. The Lady Rams were unfortunately knocked to the losers bracket of the tournament. The Lady Rams will have to compete and win against 3 other losing teams in order to advance back to the championship bracket, for a chance to claim the title. Their road to the championship is not over, but it’s a longer one now. Their first game in the losing bracket will be against #11 seed Miyamura, who lost earlier on November 14 to seed #6 Santa Teresa, at 9:45 am on November 15. If they lose this match, they’ll be out of the running. If they win, they’ll advance one step closer to redemption and joining the championship final 4 teams seeking the state title.
