On Friday, April 30, 2021, the Portales Lady Rams traveled to Lovington for their final game of the regular season, albeit short. The tip off of the game was at 7 PM.
With about 100 people in attendance, the Lady Rams won the tip off and shortly after, point guard, #12 Teagan Faust added the first points of the game with a solid 3! That was quickly followed by a foul against #11 Kylyie Paden, who added another point from the free throw line. The ball got tossed in by Lovington and Portales managed to get it back quickly, and #3 Taris Ripee made a 3, which put the Lady Rams up 7-0 within just a few minutes of the start of the game, setting the tone for the rest of the game. In fact, all the scoring was followed by a basket from #10 Riley Shillings. Within 7 min. of the game starting, Portales was up 18-0.
Lovington did finally score, but by the end of the first period, and a final quick basket from #14 Adrianna Garcia, the Lady Rams were up 24-2 going into the 2nd.
Mattison Blakley and Kinzie Davis joined the scoring group in the 2nd and the 2 teams went into halftime with Portales ahead 42-10.
The Lady Rams continued their streak, leaving Lovington with a massive deficit in the 3rd, which included points from #34 Rebekah Courtney, as well as Paden and Ripee. Going into the 4th, Portales had taken the lead so much that it was impossible for Lovington to overcome. The score going into the 4th was 57-19.
The final period proved to be more of the same with the Lady Rams completely dominating their opponents, and the game ended with a score of 69-24. The win finished Portales’ regular (shortened) season 9-1.
