Kimberly Diane Nusser, better known to family and friends as “Kim,” was born Sept. 9, 1965 in Chandler, AZ to the home of Linda L. (Hutchison) and Virgil Woodrow Johnson, Jr. and died July 21, 2019 in Portales, NM. Kim’s father was in the US Air Force, and therefore, she spent her childhood in a number of locations across the US and around the world. Her favorite was when they lived in Japan. By the time she was in high school, they were living in Oklahoma, and she graduated from Enid High School in Enid, OK in 1983. She went on to graduate with a BS in English Literature Education. Mrs. Nusser taught in several locations in Oklahoma before coming to Portales in 2011. For a year after moving here, she taught at Yucca Junior High School in Clovis. Mrs. Nusser was a perpetual student both in the formal sense of attending classes, as well as informally through her own personal studies. She was a voracious reader, often reading an entire book in a day. In addition, she crocheted, embroidered, sewed, made beaded necklaces and did cross stitching. She was an accomplished cook and baker. Kim was very intelligent and quick witted with a quick and often sarcastic come back. She loved her pets, but most of all, she was a devoted and loving mother. Kim was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church.
On June 1, 2001 in Davenport, OK she was married to Gerald Nusser. Mr. Nusser preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 2011. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Emilia and Clarence Gooch of Tulsa, OK; her son, Isaiah Nusser of Portales; her parents, Linda and Virgil Johnson, Jr. of San Antonio, TX; a brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Jen Johnson of Cleveland, OH and a sister, Tambrey Ozuna of San Antonio, TX.
