RICHARDSON, TEXAS – Junior Aminata Kenyawani and senior Evaline Cheptoo each received All-Lone Star Conference honors and Kenyawani was named the league’s Newcomer of the Year as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Kenyawani and Cheptoo both recorded top-10 finishes at the 2019 Lone Star Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning in Silver City, N.M. to help lead the Greyhounds to a third-place team finish behind Lubbock Christian and West Texas A&M. Kenyawani earned Newcomer of the Year and All-Lone Star Conference honors after finishing in sixth place with a time of 23:01.54 while Cheptoo earned a place on the all-conference team with a ninth place finish after a time of 23:14.58.
This marks the second year in a row that an Eastern New Mexico runner was named the Newcomer of the Year after Cheptoo earned the award in 2018.
West Texas A&M’s Jake Kroclick earned the men’s coach of the year award after leading the Buffs to their seventh-straight Lone Star Conference title and Lubbock Christian’s Leigh Cordes was named the women’s coach of the year after leading Lubbock Christian to the team crown.
Kenywani and Cheptoo will lead the Hounds into the South Central Region Championships on Nov. 9th in Canyon, Texas.
