The Greyhounds are slated to play 11 games this year with five hosted at Greyhound Stadium.
Lee’s first season with the Hounds since 2019 will begin with an in-state showdown under the lights in Portales. New Mexico Highlands will come to ENMU for a Thursday night battle set for August 31.
The game will feature Youth Night and Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night.
Eastern holds a 33-13 series advantage over NMHU. The season opening contest will be the Cowboys first ever trip to Greyhound Stadium.
The season continues with a nonconference road contest at Sul Ross. The game will be played on September 9th in Alpine, Texas. The Greyhounds have won six-straight over the Lobos.
Conference play begins with a familiar foe in Western Oregon for Military Appreciation Day. The second-year LSC affiliate member comes to Greyhound Stadium for just the second time in school history on September 16th. The last meeting in the Land of Enchantment came November 10, 2018 when the Hounds earned a 19-14 victory.
Fans who come to the game will receive entry into the College Daze Rodeo that night with proof of ticket.
The first away game in conference play for ENMU is against Midwestern State September 23rd. Eastern New Mexico last beat the Mustangs when Kelley Lee and the program earned a 27-24 road win in 2019.
Eastern comes back to town for Family Day set for September 30th. The matchup will pit Angelo State against the Hounds. The Rams are another program that last lost to ENMU in 2019 with Lee at the helm of Greyhound football.
The athletics department will be recognizing the 2013 Lone Star Conference champs during the game.
The program will play its next two contests on the road.
On October 7th, the team heads to Central Washington. It will be the Hounds first visit to CWU as the Wildcats became a football-only member of the LSC in 2022.
The road swing continues with a visit to UT Permian Basin October 14th. This will be the seventh meeting between the two foes and the second in Midland, Texas at Astound Broadband Stadium. UTPB and ENMU are knotted at three games apiece in series history.
Homecoming season comes to Greyhound Stadium on October 21st as Texas A&M-Kingsville visits Portales. Kelley Lee is 3-0 against TAMUK as the head coach of Eastern New Mexico. During the game, Hall of Honors recipients will be acknowledged.
Nonconference play concludes with a road trip to face Lincoln (MO) on October 28th. ENMU will meet the Blue Tigers for the first time in school history.
Fans will not want to miss the final home game of the year as the 36th edition of the Wagon Wheel will be played November 4th at Greyhound Stadium. Last season, the Greyhounds beat WT in Canyon, 24-21, to bring back the wheel to Portales.
The 2023 regular season concludes with a road trip to Silver City to take on Western New Mexico for the Chile Bowl. The matchup is slated for November 11th. The Greyhounds hold a 43-16-2 advantage in the series with WNMU and look to bring back the Chile Bowl to Portales with a victory.
“We are excited about our 2023 schedule with the opportunity to play five home games at Greyhound Stadium,” said head coach Kelley Lee. “Rivalry games are what makes college football special and we kick off the season with New Mexico Highlands and then end the season with back-to-back games versus West Texas A&M and Western New Mexico. That’s as good as it gets.”
Season tickets will be going on sale next week.
