Funeral services for Kathleen (Swank) Maloney, 67, of Portales, will be at 2:00 PM, Thurs., Sept. 26, 2019 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Gary Miller officiating. Burial will be on Thurs., Oct. 3, 2019 in Fort Bliss National Cemetery, Fort Bliss, TX.
Kathleen Maloney was born Aug. 8, 1952 in Jos, Nigeria, where her father was a missionary with Sudan Interior Missions. When Kathleen turned 18, she returned to the U. S., and went to Joliet, IL for a short time. She went on to attend Grace Bible College in Omaha, NE for two years. In March of 1984, she joined the US Army. While in the service, she was trained as a Radiology Assistant. Following her discharge in 1987, she was employed in that field in KS and later in El Paso, TX. In 2002, she moved to Salem, OR. On Jan. 2, 2004, in Salem, she was married to Terry Maloney. Since 2005, she and her husband had made their home in Portales.
Kathleen was a member of the Open Gate Nazarene Church in El Paso, but regularly attended Living Stones Community Nazarene Church in Clovis. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and fishing and hunting.
She is survived by her husband, Terry Maloney of their home; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and James Rothenberger of Wichita, KS; five grandchildren, Vanessa (Jared) Schmidt, Destiny Sanchez, Phoenix Rothenberger, Gracie Rothenberter and Emiley Graham; one great-grandchild, Sophia Sanchez; two brothers, Doug Swank of Phoenix, AZ and David Swank of IL; and two sisters, Sharon Barcht of Salem, OR and Judy Carrick.
