Judy Ann Johnson was born April 16, 1947 in Clovis, to the home of Ruey Evelyn (Long) and Charles Edward “Charlie” Clark, and died early on the morning of Dec. 18, 2021 in Clovis, NM. Judy grew up on her family’s farm east of Portales, and graduated from Portales High School in 1965. Her first job was at Hatch Packing Plant in Portales. On July 12, 1967 she was married to Mike Johnson. They had two sons together before later divorcing. They moved to Sparta, MO where Judy worked in a factory winding electric motors. After several years, they returned to Clovis, where she worked for a time at Cannon Moving and Storage. Her next employment was in local grocery stores, and then in 1992, she established Factory Carpet Outlet which she owned and operated until her retirement in 2008.

Throughout her life, Judy was intimately involved with the lives of her children and grandchildren.  At the very least, she was a spectator at every sporting event.  Over time she became the bookkeeper for the league or the team.  When her sons began auto racing, she not only kept the books, but also oversaw the operation of the track.

In 1997, she met Jim Phillips.  They became life partners, and Judy helped him rear his four children, Heith, Jeremy, Monica and Robin.  Judy grew up going fishing with her family, and fishing was always a great source of enjoyment.  Even as an adult, she made trips with her parents to go fish at the lake or at Del Rio.  She also liked cooking, as well as gardening and canning her produce.  Judy always looked forward to spending time with her sister, Margaret, and also developed a close friendship with her caregiver, Chrissy Gibson.

She is survived by her life partner, Jim Phillips of their home; her two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dale and Christy Johnson of Texico, NM and David Johnson of Clovis; eight grandchildren, Landon (Shanda) Johnson, Michael (Jade) Johnson, Donavon Johnson, Canyon Scarborough, Cheyenne Scarborough, Brayden (Chase) Mitchell, Carley (Ethan) Stancell and Blayne Johnson; six great-grandchildren; her sister, Margaret Riley of Clovis; a sister-in-law, Patsy Hisey of Farmington, NM; and her caregiver and close friend, Chrissy Gibson of Clovis.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Charles Clark and a sister, Sue Lee both of who died in 1984.
