Jovita passed away peacefully on September 14, 2024, in her home surrounded by loved ones.  A viewing will be held at Wheeler Mortuary Thursday, September 19th from 8am to 8pm. Memorial Services will take place Friday, September 20th at St. Helens Catholic Church beginning with a Rosary at 9am, and mass at 10am. Graveside services will follow in the Elida cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Jesus Galvan. All are invited for fellowship and a meal to be served at the Elida Community Center after the burial. Pallbearers will be Stevie Aguilar, Justin Ruiz, Wyatt Barron, Jessica Barron, Alejandro Galvan and Cruz Belden. Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.

After immigrating to the United States, Jovita made her home at Bojax Ranch. During this time, she became well known for her amazing cooking skills and her passion for feeding and loving on people. It wasn’t uncommon for her to feed parties of 60 or greater in one sitting. In 1988 they moved and became lifelong citizens of the wonderful community of Elida. They both worked at Coombs Cattle for many years. She also worked at Hampton Farms where she was valued for her strong work ethic. Rain, snow, sleet, or hail, she was never late for work or missed a day, even if it meant leaving at 3 am to get to work on time.

After retirement Jovita dedicated her life not only to her family and friends, but also to her garden, flowers, chickens and cats. Jovita was a true matriarch, her love for her family came second only to her love for the Lord. Due to her strong faith, she embodied the Fruits of the Spirit which are: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

She also had a fiery, funny, witty, bossy side to her. She could set you straight in the most loving, kind and forgiving way. She was the type of person who always had your back.  Jovita never met a stranger; she could spark up a conversation anywhere at any time. To some she was Mom, Grandma, Wela, Tía, Mama, but to all she was a confidant.

Jovita is survived by her children, Martina (Chris) Aguilar and Ampy (Francisco) Towery, both of Nevada, Steve (Kathy) Barron of Elida, Roger (Destiny) Barron of Missouri, Andy (Desiree) Galvan of Portales. Also, Sandy (Sean) Belden and Rauly Puebla of Portales, Eric (Claudia) Puebla of Hobbs, Betty (Curtis) Brady of Lubbock, whom she loved as her own. Her siblings, Raul (Aida) Puebla of Hobbs, Socorro (Gerardo) Garcia and Andres (Anita) Puebla, both of Portales, Chayo (Salome) Puebla de Dosal, Olga Puebla, Reynaldo Puebla, Manuel (Chela) Puebla, all of Mexico. She is also survived by 22 grandkids, 7 great-grandkids (and 1 on the way), and numerous nieces and nephews.  Jovita is preceded in death by her first husband (Esteban Barron), her second husband (Jesus Galvan), her parents, and 4 siblings.
