Funeral services for Jonathan Gallegos, 32, of Portales, will be held at 10:00 AM, Mon., Dec. 13, 2021 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with David Bonner officiating.  Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Michael Chavez, Gabriel Villanueva, P. J. Carrillo, Adrian Carrillo, Christopher Brito, Cruzito Lovato, Orlando Lovato, Kyle Doolady and Ruben Urias serving as pallbearers.  All of his family and friends will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Jonathan Patrick Gallegos was born June 22, 1989 in Las Vegas, NM to the home of Betsy Sue (Gallegos) and Steve Chavez and died Dec. 7, 2021 at his home in Portales.  Jonathan graduated from Portales High School in 2008.  While he was in school, he played wide receiver on the football team, competed as a high jumper and in the 400 meter medley and played basketball.  In addition he also worked part time at the local McDonalds restaurant.  For a brief time following his graduation, he worked with Heflin construction doing work on the Ethanol plant and then was employed at the plant.  His next job was with Mesa Ingredients producing cattle feed.  Later in 2008, Jonathan began working at the Southwest Cheese Plant, where he continued to work until his health forced him to leave in June of 2020.

On Oct. 23, 2009 in Portales he was married to Santana Brito. Jonathan enjoyed a variety of activities. He liked to grill, go fishing and camping, play co-ed softball, ride motorcycles and was a Baltimore Ravens Football fan. Most of all, Jonathan was a devoted husband and father to his two children.

He is survived by his wife, Santana and their son, Julian and daughter, Mia Gallegos all of their home; his mother and father, Betsy and Steve Chavez of Portales and a brother, Michael Chavez also of Portales; his father and mother-in-law, Joe Brito, Jr. and Angie De La Fuente of Littlefield, TX; his maternal grandparents, Nora and Jimmy Gallegos of Guadalupita, NM; his grandparents-in-law, Maria Brito and Modesto Martinez of Portales, NM and Joe Brito, Sr. of Anton, TX; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Christopher and Trisha Brito of Portales, Orlando and Micah Lovato of Littlefield, TX; sisters-in-law, Marisela De La Fuente and Cassandra Ortega of Levelland, TX; his aunts and uncles, Lola Gallegos of Guadalupita, NM, Darlene Gallegos and her companion, Joe Espinosa of Rainesville, NM, Ernestine and Max Pacheco of Chacon, NM, Tony Chavez and his companion, Roberta Sanchez of Clovis, NM, Teresa Montoya of Roswell, NM, Maria “Lala” Chavez of Portales, Amy and Polo Carrillo of Portales, and Jessie and Brenda Brito of Littlefield, TX as well as numerous nephews, nieces and cousins and his many friends.  He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jenny and Gabriel Chavez, two uncles, James and Erineo Gallegos, an aunt, Betty Ann Gallegos, his mother-in-law, Eva Gossett, as well as great aunts and uncles and great-grandparents.
