Jerry Wayne Deen, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and service. Born to Harrison and Sue (McCurdy) Deen on June 24, 1950, he lived a life dedicated to God, family, and community. Raised on a farm in the countryside, he developed a deep appreciation for the simple life. He graduated from Floyd High School in 1968 and later earned a bachelor’s degree in forestry science from Eastern New Mexico University in 1973. In addition, he had a “master’s degree” in dad jokes! Undoubtedly, he had a deep love for learning and laughter.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Helen (Rowland) Deen of Clovis, NM, with whom he shared a lifetime of cherished memories since February 24, 1970. His children, Patty O’Hare of Clovis, NM; Kathleen (David) Wagner of Portales, NM; Cody (Susan) Deen of Chapel Hill, NC; and Bruce (Tim) Deen of Denver, CO, were the pride of his life. His love extended to his beloved grandchildren, Blake (Laci) O’Hare, Chance O’Hare, Hannah (Matthew) Morgan, Grant (Laura) Wagner, Claire Deen, and Lila Deen, as well as his great-grandchildren who were the joy of his life, Alden, Anderson, and Marley O’Hare, and Elinor and Joseph Morgan. He also leaves behind his son-in-law, Mike (Kerri) O’Hare.

He is lovingly remembered by his siblings, Linda (Dan) Lord of El Paso, TX; Patsy (Jimmy Dale) Ward of Elida, NM; and Allen (Karen) Deen of Portales, NM. His extended family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews all knew him as the uncle who made each of them feel like they were all his favorite.

A man of many talents and a heart full of kindness, he was a dedicated farmer in Eastern New Mexico and a  paramedic and firefighter in Clovis, NM. He served the community as part of the New Mexico EMS Region III and later as a Safety Officer with K. Barnett & Sons. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, and as a beloved song leader at Calvary Tabernacle Church in Clovis, NM, he also uplifted others on occasion with his inspirational sermons.

Known for his humor, intelligence, and generosity, just one conversation with him made it clear why he was so highly respected. He had a unique gift for using his humor to make others feel truly valued. His ability to fix anything was a blessing to his family, and his love of life was evident in his favorite pastimes, which included fishing, enjoying Helen’s cooking, and appreciating the works of artist Bev Doolittle, actor John Wayne, and the Star Wars saga. Furthermore, he operated an unofficial “Squirrel Removal Service” and was the proud inventor of the beloved family pastime, the “Rarr game.”

He is preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Jerrid Wayne Wagner.

He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, humor, and unwavering love for God, family, and friends will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

Rest in peace, to one of the sweetest and kindest men to walk this earth. Jerry heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
