Obituary

The Rosary for Jerry C. Madrid, 76, of Portales will be recited at 9:00 AM, Tues., Mar. 14, 2023 at St. Helen Catholic Church.  Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10:00 AM, with Fr. Franklin Iwuagwu as Celebrant.  Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Gabriel Ortega, Juan Madrid, Ryan Madrid, Sebastian Ortega, Angel Espinoza, Everado Dominguez and Anthony Jasper serving as pallbearers.  Jack Habour, Joe Middleton, Roland Barnard along with all of his other friends will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Jerry Cresenciano Madrid was born Aug. 20, 1946 in Encino, NM to the home of Emma Elvira (Trujillo) and Alfredo Cresaneno Madrid, and died at his home in Portales on Mar. 9, 2023.  The Madrid family moved to Portales when Jerry was a small child.  Portales remained his home for the rest of his life.  On Mar. 19, 1965, he was married to Mary Rita Villanueva.

Jerry worked as a mechanic for Trader Horn for several years.  Then in 1975, he purchased Jerry’s Chevron Station which he operated until 1981.  At that time, he went to work at the Bluitt Gas Plant in charge of maintenance.  Jerry retired in 1993.

Since his retirement he has spent a lot of time on his computer.  On television he loved to watch the Dallas Cowboys play football, as well as watch westerns and Fox News.  Jerry was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church.

He is survived by Mary, his wife of almost 58 years of Portales; his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Amy Madrid of Forney, TX; two grandchildren, Ryan Madrid and wife, Cynthia and Alyssa Tillinghast and husband, Michael; two great-grandchildren, Becket and Declan Tillinghast; an honorary daughter, Melanie Jasper and husband, Anthony of Portales; four brothers, Billy (Connie) Madrid of Farmersville, TX, Fred (Dubie) Madrid of Albuquerque, David Madrid of Wichita Falls, TX and Paul (Roxanne) Madrid of Centerton, AR; three sisters, Patricia (Petronilo, Jr.) Lucero of Portales, Vanessa Madrid of Forney, TX and Paula (Angel) Espinoza of Mesquite, TX; and two brother-in-laws, Manny Ortega and Julio Rodriguez both of Portales.  Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; an infant “son,” Michael Madrid; as well as four brothers, Eloy, Luis, Jamie and Phillip Madrid and four sisters, Ramona Coiner, Angie Visser, Katie Rodriguez and Matilda Ortega.
