Jean Alice (Scherer) Westring May 11, 1936 ~ October 19, 2024 (age 88)

Memorial services for Jean Westring, 88, of Portales, will be held at 2:00 PM, Sat., Oct. 26, 2024 at Grace Pointe Baptist Church in Portales with Pastor Kelly Fulfer officiating.

Mrs. Westring was born May 11, 1936, in Buffalo, NY to the home of Alice (Reynolds) and Eugene Scherer, and passed from this life on Sat. evening, Oct. 19, 2024 at her home in Portales.  As girl, she and her family moved to LaJoya, CA where she graduated from high school in 1954.  She was employed at Astronautics in San Diego, CA when she met a co-worker, Neal Westring.  The couple was married on June 16, 1962.  Mrs. Westring had two children by a previous marriage, that Mr. Westring adopted as his own.  The family lived for a time in Clairmont, CA and then moved to Ramona, CA where they lived for approximately 20 years.  In 2003, they relocated to Portales to make their home in their retirement to be close to their daughter and son-in-law, and to be able to spend time with their grandson.

Mrs. Westring and her husband belonged to the Elks Lodge.  They enjoyed riding their dune buggy in the sandhills, and they were a sight to behold on the dance floor.

She is survived by two sons, Ronald J. Westring of Portales and Donald James Westring of Romona, CA; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon Lynn and Tommy Boylen of Littlefield, TX and Caren and Jim Eslick of Portales; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a brother, Dennis Sherer and a sister, Laurie Collet.  She was preceded in death by her parents and by her beloved husband, Neal J. Westring who died May 18, 2006.
