Funeral services for Janice Ogden, 68, of Portales, will be held at 2:00 PM, Sat., Feb. 18, 2017 at Faith Christian Family Church in Clovis, with Pastor Rick Raney officiating, assisted by Pastor Tyler Cockrell and members of Mrs. Ogden’s family. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with T. J. Garcia, Tanner Allen, Brenden Smith, Trenten Smith, Corey Vandenberg, Ryan O’Donnell, Lindsey Carson for her husband, SSgt John Michael Carson, Jr., Brogan Fraze and Cray Fraze serving as pallbearers. The Women’s Life Group and the Faith Christian Family Church Altar Team will serve as honorary pallbearers. Janice Kay Ogden was born April 4, 1948 in Portales to the home of Wanda (Howard) and E. J. Gossett and died Sunday evening Feb. 12, 2017 near Littlefield, TX. Janice grew up in Floyd, and graduated from Floyd High School in 1966. On Nov. 25, 1964 in her parents’ home, she was married to Johnny Ogden. They first lived in Las Cruces, NM where her husband was attending NMSU. Following his graduation, they lived in Fort Sunmner and later Elida before purchasing a dairy farm in Floyd. Shortly after her husband’s death in 2013, she moved to Portales to live with her mother.
Janice was a very active member of Faith Christian Family Church in Clovis, where she could be counted on to help in any way she was needed. She was a regular part of the Altar Team and the Jail Ministry. She was also a member the Women’s Life Group at the church. Janice loved people, and she lived to bring others to Christ and disciple them in their walk with the Lord. Janice was a very doting and devoted grandmother, and enjoyed supporting her grandchildren in all of their activities.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Curtis Allen of Rhea, TX, Sherrye and Anthony Lovelace of Alva, OK and Tammy and Trevor Fraze of Portales; 12 grandchildren, Taryn (Ryan) O’Donnell, Tanner (Charlsi) Allen, Lindsey (SSgt John, Jr.) Carson, Brenden Smith, Trenten Smith, T. J. (Elena) Garcia, Amber Garcia, Corey Vandenberg, Mycah Garcia, Brogan Fraze, Cashlin Fraze and Cray Fraze; 9 great-grandchildren; her mother, Wanda Gossett of Portales; and a sister and brother-in-law, Vickie and Frank Mitchell of Littleton, CO. She was preceded in death by her father, E. J. Gossett and by her beloved husband, Johnny Ogden who died Mar. 13, 2013.
