Graveside services for Jacqueline Harman, 85, a longtime resident of Portales will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Mon. Jan. 11, 2021 in the Portales Cemetery next to her husband with Rev. Randy Rankin and David Bonner officiating.
Jacqueline Harman was born Jacqueline Joyce Ramsey in Dibble, Oklahoma on August 21st, 1935 to the parents of Jack and Pauline Ramsey. Jackie, as she was known to her friends attended Blanchard public schools before graduating with her teaching degree from Oklahoma College for Women in the spring of 1958 and she earned her master’s degree from Eastern New Mexico University in 1967.
Jackie married Jim Harman in Anniston, Alabama in July of 1958 before moving to Portales, New Mexico in the summer of 1959. She taught in the Portales public schools for over 25 years before retiring to assist Jim in managing his State Farm Insurance agency in Portales. Her marriage to Jim lasted more than 51 years and they had one son, Ron Harman. After Jim passed away on December 27th, 2009 she moved to Houston, Texas to be close to her family. She lived life to the fullest through the simple things; chatting and laughing with family and friends, traveling, snacking on sweets, steak dinners at Taste of Texas, chicken and dumplings from Cracker Barrel and visits with her beloved great-grandbabies. Jackie was a member of First Baptist Church in Portales, and later of First Baptist Church in Houston. She was a faithful servant to God and read her bible and devotionals daily.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Thomas Harman, and her brother Perry Ramsey. She is survived in death by her son, Ron Harman and his wife JoAnn, brother Dan Ramsey, grandchildren; Chelsie Harman, Corey Harman and Charlie Bunteen and great grandchildren Harper DeLaRosa and Holden Dowlearn.
In leu of flowers, the family encourages donations in her honor to the New Mexico Baptist Children’s Home, the Wounded Warriors Project, the Alzheimer Association or a charitable organization of your choice.
