Obituary
Funeral services for Iva Irene Collins, 85, will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery.
Iva Irene (Chambers) Collins was born on May 29, 1937, in Clovis, New Mexico, to the home of Thelma (Jackson) and Vestal Charles Chambers, and died on August 20, 2022, in Clovis, New Mexico.
Iva grew up in the Ranchvale area and graduated from Portales High School. She was the Curry County Fair Queen in 1953. She married Dave Grey Collins on August 3, 1954, in Ranchvale, New Mexico. Iva was a housewife and a mother of three children. She made wedding veils for Nieman Marcus before she started her own business making bridal veils. She loved to sew and quilt. She made most of the clothing for her children. Iva loved children. She taught children in Sunday School classes and took care of them in the nursery as well.
Iva was preceded in death by her husband Dave Grey Collins in 2018, and her parents.
Iva is survived by her sons, Johnny Collins & wife Rhonda and Ivan Collins & wife Pam; her daughter, Debora Birdsong & husband Curtis; seven grandchildren, Roy, Randy, Chance, Micah, Bryanna, Nathan and David; four great grandchildren, Jax, Nash, Reagan and Charlie; two brothers, Charles Chambers & wife Evelyn and Jim Chambers & wife Deanna, and one sister, Anita Wilmeth & husband Pat.
