Impressive Post Play Carries Women’s Basketball to Victory over Cameron

Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball (19-8, 13-8 LSC) took advantage of their size and athleticism, tying their season-high in scoring as the Hounds cruised to a 93-74 victory over Cameron Thursday night.

The Greyhounds forwards asserted their will down low as they outscored the Aggies 46-26 in the paint. Four different Eastern players recorded double-digit scoring figures led by a huge double-double from senior Natalie DeLonge.

DeLonge turned in a career performance, setting personal bests with 21 points and three blocks to go along with 13 rebounds as she tallied her third double-double of the season. Senior Jasmine Williams added 17 points and nine rebounds on an efficient 6-for-9 shooting as junior Alivia Lewis contributed nine points, 12 rebounds, three steals and a pair of blocks.

The Green and Silver continue to break down opposing defenses with terrific ball movement and recorded their second straight game with more than 20 assists, totaling 21 during the contest. Sophomore Zamorye Cox contributed nearly half of that total as she constantly found the open player and tied her career-high, dishing out nine assists. Cox finished as the fourth Greyhound to score double figures with ten points and also hauled in three rebounds and swiped a pair of steals.

With three players standing at least 6-0 tall, the Hounds are an imposing defensive force and were able to use their height to effect the Aggies offense. Eastern set a new season-high with eight blocked shots, the most recorded in a single game since 2018.

On the glass, the Hounds outrebounded the Aggies 54-34 and were able to add to their commanding lead with 20 second chance points. With Eastern constantly pounding the ball into the paint, the Greyhounds were able to create a lot of contact and totaled 22 points from the free-throw line.

Cameron was able to best ENMU in the turnover battle with the High Plains squad committing 22 turnovers and only forcing the Aggies into 16. Despite their possession miscues, the Hounds relied on tremendous touch around the basket as they shot 32-for-64 from the field for an efficient 50% shooting percentage.

The Hounds will look to end their regular season schedule on a high note with hopes of carrying their momentum into the LSC Tournament. Eastern will face Midwestern State on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in its Senior Day Game.
