The Rosary for Ignacio Parra, 83, of Portales will be recited at 9:00 AM, Sat., Mar. 4, 2017 at St. Helen Catholic Church. It will be followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 AM with Fr. Charles Ugochukwu as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Pedro Martha, Alan Parra, Rogelio Martha and Tony Parra serving as pallbearers.
Ignacio Parra, known to family and friends as “Nacho,” was born Aug. 28, 1933 in La Esperanza, Mexico to the home of Margarita (Hernandez) and Manuel Parra Vasquez and died at his home Feb. 28, 2017. In 1973 he was married to Cruz Torres in Chihuahua, Mexico. That same year they came to Goodland, TX, where he worked at the grain elevator for 36 years. After retiring from the elevator, he continued to work part time for Terry Varnell, and had only really been retired for the past seven years. In addition he bought and sold cattle.
He is survived by his wife, Cruz of the home; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Armando and Betty Parra of Juanita, NE, Jaime and Margarita Parra of Esperanza, MX, Luis Parra of Aldama, MX and Tony Parra of Albuquerque; seven daughters and three sons-in-law, Alma Parra of Aldama, MX, Aida Parra of Aldama, MX, Norma and Pepe Triena of Kansas City, KS, Christina and Juan Chavez of Oklahoma City, OK, Irma Parra of Aldama, MX, Sylvia and Rogelio Martha of Whiteface, TX and Angelica Parra of Portales; 24 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Antonio Parra of Chihuahua City, MX and two sisters, Socorro Parra of Delicias, MX and Manuela Parra of Chihuahua City, MX.
