The Ident A Kit contains the child’s fingerprint, DNA, Photograph and the parent keeps this in their possession.
In the case of missing kid, this is important information that the parent can share with the police immediately. When a child is missing, parents are not thinking clearly, and this very important information can be kept on hand and used quickly to help locate a child.
Officer Charlie Smart said, “Portales Police Department plans on doing this program every year from now on, there were a few years that it was not done due to Covid. Today we are here at Legacy Church on 18th. McDonalds is giving away free meals, Walmart donated bicycles that will be raffled off today, Legacy Church has opened up the Church for our use today. Portales Fire Department is here with Firetrucks on display and to help out with the kids. We are so thankful to our sponsors and want our community to know that we really care about this community and are doing everything we can to ensure safety for our citizens.”
In addition to the Ident A Kit program, the Portales Police Department had a variety of hands outs pertaining to public safety in particular dealing with Human Trafficking. Officer Smart went on to say, “people tend to think human trafficking only happens somewhere else but it could happen right here in Portales so we want our citizens to be aware and to know the signs. Again, Thank You to our sponsors, Legacy Church, Walmart and McDonalds!”
