“Are you weary, carrying a heavy burden? Come to me. I will refresh your life, for I am your oasis. Simply join your life with mine. Learn my ways and you’ll discover that I’m gentle, humble, easy to please. You will find refreshment and rest in me. For all that I require of you will be pleasant and easy to bear.”
Matthew 11:28-30 TPT
How easy is it to get caught up in the chaos of life? How often do we let our burdens become to heavy to bear? Life is not always easy and light.
When faith is active, rest is present.
Martin Luther once said:
“The spiritual rest, which God particularly intends in this Commandment, is this: that we not only cease from our labor and trade, but much more, that we let God alone work in us and that we do nothing of our own with all our powers.”
Instead of depending on our own strength to carry us through the burdens in our life we need to trust in God and in God alone, resting in Him. The phrase “resting in God” means to give absolute control over our lives and what may be ahead, trusting in Him and His purpose that He has set before us. We need to gain an understanding of what surrender and just sitting at the feet of Jesus means. Laying all our burdens and worries before Him.
When we rest in God, we will have freedom, peace, and joy in any circumstance, knowing He is tending to our every need. When we allow the worries and trials to increase, we are allowing the enemy to take over. This gives us a heavier burden to carry. As we fully embrace rest by remaining in the presence of God, this is when He becomes our oasis to our dry and barren places. It is there that one finds a place of life, refreshment, renewal, rest and relief.
