PORTALES – Today, the Human Services Department (HSD) office in Portales, N.M. will be expanding office hours to assist customers. The HSD office lobby, located at 1500 S Ave. D., Portales, N.M. 88130, will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

“HSD is committed to supporting low-income families in their community,” said Karmela Martinez, Income Support Division director. “We’re thrilled to be able to extend office hours to better serve our customers in Roosevelt County.”

HSD listened to concerns from the Roosevelt County Commissioners office and the Roosevelt County Health Council about the unique challenges rural communities have when applying for or renewing public assistance benefits. Driven by those concerns, HSD is committed to serve our customers in the Portales area with expanded office hours. HSD is committed to ensuring every qualified New Mexican receive timely and accurate benefits regardless of method of communication.

The Income Support Division has automated eligibility processes which allow many customers who apply online to receive quick and efficient eligibility determinations without stepping into an office.  The Income Support Division provides New Mexicans with many options for applying, renewing, or reporting changes. All New Mexicans in need of food assistance, cash assistance or health insurance can apply for benefits online at www.yes.state.nm.us or to speak to a customer service representative, you can call the Customer Service Center at 1-800-283-4465. The Customer Service Center can provide a wide range of services as would in office services. In addition, ISD customers can mail documents to:

For our hearing, and speech impaired customers, we utilize Relay New Mexico, a free 24-hour service that ensures equal communication access via the telephone to individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind or speech disabled.

The Human Services Department provides services and benefits to 1,070,126 New Mexicans through several programs including: the Medicaid Program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Child Support Program, and several Behavioral Health Services.
