The Eastern New Mexico softball team dropped both contests on Friday afternoon by final scores of 10-1 and 7-0 to #18 Texas A&M-Commerce.
The Hounds recorded just five hits on the day and struggled to slow down a Texas A&M-Commerce offense that was consistent all day on their home field. The Hounds lone run in the two games came from junior Samantha Brockman by way of a solo homerun in the top half of the second inning of game number one.
Brockman’s solo shot over the leftfield fence answered a seven run top half of the first inning for the Lions. Sophomore Parker Smith and first baseman Precious Aguirre were the other two Hounds to record a hit in the game.
The Hounds couldn’t recover after the first game ended by run rule in five innings in game number two and couldn’t cash in a double by junior Elysa Rodriguez and a single by sophomore Kayla Marshall to answer seven runs from the Lions in the game. Texas A&M-Commerce scored six runs in the first three frames of game number two and then tacked on one more in the bottom of the sixth to bring the score to a 7-0 final and build a 2-0 lead in the series at the end of day one.
Senior Kimberly Herron suffered the loss in both games in the circle.
Eastern New Mexico will look to answer a tough day one against the Lions tomorrow afternoon with a single game scheduled for a 12 p.m. start.
