After splitting a pair of tough road games at Cameron and MSU Texas last week, the Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball team held its No. 6 position in the D2SIDA South Central Regional Poll released on Monday.
The weekly poll, sponsored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) is voted upon by six sports information directors from the South Central region, three of which from the Lone Star (LSC)/Heartland (HC) Conferences and three from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).

The Hounds stayed in sixth after picking up a 68-67 win at Cameron on Thursday before falling 75-71 at MSU Texas on Saturday. In the matchup against the Aggies, Eastern came up with a pair of big defensive stops in the final minute to preserve the victory. With the game tied at 67 with 47 seconds left, sophomore forward Alivia Lewis came up with a huge block, giving possession back to the Greyhounds. Lewis was fouled on the ensuing possession with 19 seconds left and she was able to make a free throw to put Eastern up by one. On the Aggies final possession of the game, ENMU was able to force Cameron to miss a shot at the buzzer.

In the MSU Texas match, the Greyhounds struggled to slow down a red-hot Mustangs team that shot 69 percent from the floor in the opening half and trailed 47-30 at the break. The Hounds trailed by as much as 18 in the second half before mounting a huge rally. Eastern eventually closed the gap to two on a Zamorye Cox three-pointer with 12 seconds left to make it a 73-71 game. However, the Mustangs were able to convert both attempts from the free throw line with 10 seconds left to thwart the ENMU comeback.

The Greyhounds received 23 votes in this week’s poll, finishing two votes ahead of LSC rival Tarleton State in seventh and four votes above Western Colorado (RMAC) in eighth.

Colorado Mesa (RMAC) held the top spot in the poll with 58 votes and five of the six first place votes. Angelo State (LSC) also stayed in the No. 2 spot with 51 votes and one first place vote. Lubbock Christian (HC) moved up to third after getting a pair of tough home wins.
Westminster (RMAC) remained at No. 4 with 44 votes after getting a pair of wins last week while West Texas A&M (LSC) fell from third to fifth with 40 votes after dropping a 66-61 decision at MSU Texas and rebounding with a win at Cameron.
Rounding out the poll was Texas A&M-Commerce (LSC), who fell from eighth to ninth with 11 votes while Newman (HC) climbed back into the No. 10 spot with seven votes.

The Greyhounds will now return home for their final four home games of the season. Eastern will open the stretch with a Thursday night battle against UT-Permian Basin. The Greek Night game presented by San Juan Village Apartments is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tip. The Hounds will close out the week on Saturday as they host Western New Mexico for 60s Night, presented by Pizza Hut. That game is slated for a 1 p.m. tip inside Greyhound Arena.
