COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After splitting a pair of Lone Star Conference games last week, the Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball team placed in eighth in the latest D2SIDA South Central Regional Poll released on Monday.

The weekly poll, sponsored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) is voted upon by six sports information directors from the South Central region, three of which from the Lone Star (LSC)/Heartland Conferences (HC) and three from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

The Hounds took a slight dip from seventh in the last poll after dropping their first LSC game of the season on Thursday 79-52 at Angelo State, the nationally 18th-ranked and then No. 2 team in the South Central Region. The Greyhounds bounced back in a big way on Saturday, winning at Texas A&M-Kingsville 76-52 two nights after the Javelinas upset the No. 2 team in the country and the top team in the region in West Texas A&M.

Eastern received 15 votes in this week’s poll, finishing two votes ahead of LSC rival Tarleton State and Western Colorado (RMAC), who tied for ninth. The Hounds placed just five votes back of Texas A&M-Commerce (LSC), who made the leap from 10th after defeating Tarleton State and Texas Woman’s last week.

Despite losing its first game of the season, West Texas A&M (LSC) held on to its top spot in the poll with 60 votes and all six first place votes after picking up a 61-59 win on a buzzer beater at Angelo State. Colorado Mesa (RMAC) leapfrogged from fourth to second with 49 votes with a pair of road wins at New Mexico Highlands and CSU-Pueblo.

Angelo State (LSC) dropped from second to third, finishing just three votes back of Colorado Mesa and two votes ahead of Westminster (RMAC) in fourth. Lubbock Christian (HC) jumped from fifth to sixth after getting a pair of big wins at Texas A&M-International and St. Mary’s (HC), who placed sixth in this week’s poll.

The Greyhounds return home this week to take on a pair of regionally-ranked foes. The Hounds will face the ninth-ranked team in the region in Tarleton State at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday before challenging the No. 7 team in the region in Texas A&M-Commerce at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
