PORTALES, NM – The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team opens up the 2017 season at the Oredigger Classic, hosted by Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo., on Friday and Saturday. The Hounds go head-to-head with 13th-ranked Wayne State, 19th-ranked Colorado School of Mines, Regis and 10th-ranked Augustana.

• ENMU Head Coach Sia Poyer (53-71), in his fifth-year at the helm of the volleyball program, led the Hounds to their first winning season since 2004 last year with a 19-13 mark. The season was highlighted by an upset of 10th-ranked Angelo State, the first victory over a top-10 team in program history.

• ENMU returns 13 players from last year’s squad, including LSC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, Andrea Aguilar. Additionally, Brooklyn Biel is poised for a strong senior campaign after earning Second Team All-Conference accolades last season. Fellow seniors Amanda DietzAlexis AguirreSierra Joyner and Alba Ontiveros are expected to make an impact for the Hounds.

• Eastern’s juniors, Kaitlyn Kluna and Desiray Anderson look to see more action on the court after strong sophomore campaigns.

• The talented sophomore class of Jennifer MartinezSophia Magnuson and Sarah Tuioti-Mariner are poised for breakout seasons. Tuioti-Mariner logged 128 kills in 77 sets while Martinez picked up 78 kills in 72 sets.

• Newcomers, Destyni BrooksMarissa EllisNatasha McClendonJasmine GannonJulie TuckerTateum HarrisonSabrina Garza and Sierra Joyner aim to make an immediate impact in their first season with the Hounds.

She Digs It
• Senior Andrea Aguilar opens up the season needing 578 digs to match Caitlyn Murphy’s program record of 1,930. The reigning LSC Defensive Player of the Year has gone above 500 digs in each of the last two seasons, snuffing out 522 and 533 attacks in 2015 and 2016, respectively.

Brooklyn Bridge
• Senior Brooklyn Biel has been a catalyst for the Greyhounds over the past three seasons. The Laveen, Ariz., native has improved every season, posting 62 kills as a freshman, 272 as a sophomore and 371 as a junior. A force to be reckoned with in the middle, Biel has stuffed 215 shots during her time with the Green and Silver and needs 67 to crack the top 10 list in program history.

Setting the Table
• Senior Alexis Aguirre was an instrumental part of the run by the Greyhounds last season. The setter dished out 803 assists in Poyer’s 6-2 offense. Aguirre also throws javelin for the ENMU Track & Field team, earning a 20th-place finish at the NCAA DII Championships last season. In just two seasons with the volleyball team, the Artesia, NM, native has climbed to seventh on the career assists list with 1,905 dimes over the past two seasons.

Ones Everywhere
• Sophomores Jennifer Martinez and Sarah Tuioti-Mariner look to build off impressive performances during their first season with the Hounds. Martinez, a redshirt sophomore, had a seven-block performance in her first match playing the middle against New Mexico Highlands last year, the most by an ENMU player last season. Tuioti-Mariner surpassed the 10-kill plateau in three matches a year ago. In 13 matches from Sept. 28 to Nov. 4, the Corona, Calif., native averaged over seven kills/match.

Senior Class With A’s
• Of the six seniors on the 2017 roster, four have names starting with the letter A (Amanda DietzAlexis AguirreAlba Ontiveros and Andrea Aguilar). Additionally, the quartet is all from New Mexico.
