The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team honored its prestigious senior class of Amanda Dietz, Alexis Aguirre, Brooklyn Biel and Andrea Aguilar prior to Saturday’s matchup with Texas A&M-Commerce. The Greyhounds fought from the beginning, but came up short against the Lions, 3-0 (24-26, 14-25, 23-25). ENMU falls to 12-16 on the season and 9-9 in Lone Star Conference play after the setback.

Paired with the Midwestern State loss earlier in the day, the Greyhounds clinched a berth in the Lone Star Conference Tournament. With the win by Tarleton State on Saturday, the TexAnns will host the conference championships in Stephenville, Texas, beginning Nov. 16. ENMU could range anywhere from the No. 3 to No. 8 seed depending on the results around the league next weekend.

Freshman Natasha McClendon tied a season-high with 10 kills while hitting .333 to pace the Green and Silver offensively. Brooklyn Biel (7 kills), Jasmine Gannon (6 kills), Marissa Ellis (6 kills) and Sarah Tuioti-Mariner (5 kills) also turned in strong offensive performances, combining for 37 of the team’s 39 kills on the match. Alexis Aguirre and Kaitlyn Kluna combined for 32 assists with Kluna cashing in on a double-double with 11 digs as well.

Libero Andrea Aguilar continued to push her way up the record book, producing 20 digs, two aces and two assists on the night. The Clovis native now has 1,844 career digs, the second-most in program history, 86 shy of Caitlin Murphy’s all-time record of 1,930 with at least three matches to play in her senior campaign.

The Greyhounds wrap up the 2017 regular season on Friday, Nov. 10 against Angelo State in San Angelo, Texas, before travelling to Tarleton State for the finale on Saturday.
