The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team got revenge against Texas Woman’s with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-15) win on Friday evening at Greyhound Arena after suffering a setback to the Pioneers earlier in the season.
With the win, ENMU (12-15, 9-8 LSC) can clinch a berth in the Lone Star Conference tournament with a win or a Midwestern State loss over the final three matches. The Hounds welcome Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday before heading to Angelo State and Tarleton State for the final weekend while the Mustangs face the Rambelles tomorrow before hosting Cameron and Texas A&M-Kingsville next week.
In her second to last home performance, senior Brooklyn Biel dominated the match from the get-go. The Laveen, Ariz., native was near perfect against TWU, racking up 14 kills and just one error on 24 swings, good for a .542 attack percentage on the night. The middle blocker also rejected four shots by the Pioneers and produced a pair of aces from the service line. Libero Andrea Aguilar put up a game-high 17 digs, giving the Clovis product 1,824 for her career, 106 shy of Caitlin Murphy’s all-time program record. Junior Kaitlyn Kluna had a pair of service aces to go along with 20 assists to lead the team. Underclassmen Natasha McClendon and Sarah Tuioti-Mariner each added six kills while Desiray Anderson tacked on five more to round out the offense.
The Greyhounds wrap up the 2017 home season on Saturday against Texas A&M-Commerce for senior night, honoring Amanda Dietz, Alexis Aguirre, Brooklyn Biel and Andrea Aguilar. The matchup with the Lions is sponsored by Hampton Farms. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. at Greyhound Arena.
