The Eastern New Mexico men’s soccer team fell to Texas A&M-International in a high-scoring affair on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 4-3.

Four different Greyhounds recorded goals in the highly competitive match that saw each team total 13 total shots for the afternoon. The Dustdevils scored back-to-back goals in less than a minute’s span in the 72nd minute to take their first lead of the contest that would hold strong for the final 20 minutes of the game.

Freshman Aderi Arthur-Dede led the Hounds with three shots on goal for the afternoon and scored the opening goal of the match just eight minutes into the game on an assist from Gabriel Peres that provided the Hounds a 1-0 lead. That lead would hold until the 33rd minute in which Texas A&M-International got on the board with their first score of the game.

Arthur-Dede leads the team with four goals on the season while Peres added three shots to the effort to go along with his second assist of the season.

Eastern quickly answered with a goal less than 30 seconds later by Jesus Garcia in the 33rd minute. That 2-1 halftime lead was quickly erased less than three minutes into the second half for the Dustdevils as an own goal from the Hounds evened the game back up at 2-2.

Garcia’s goal was assisted by Jose Tabares-Ochoa.

Julian Trapp put the Hounds back in the lead for the third time with a goal in the 65th minute off of an assist from Arthur-Dede.

The Hounds outshot the Dustdevils in the second half 8-to-4, but couldn’t find a way to get the equalizing goal in the back of the net after the quick two goals from Texas A&M-International in the 72nd minute.

Eastern New Mexico will look to bounce back at home inside Greyhound Stadium as they continue Heartland Conference play on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. against UT-Permian Basin.
