SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The Eastern New Mexico men’s soccer team dropped their first road Heartland Conference game of the year by a final score of 2-0 to St. Mary’s University.

The Hounds fall to 4-4-1 on the season and 2-2-1 in Heartland Conference play and will look to pick up a result on Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m. against another top conference foe in Texas A&M-International in Laredo, Texas. Freshman Aderi Arthur-Dede and Marvin Lewin each recorded two shots on goal in the contest to lead the Hounds.

Nenad Markovic opened up the scoring for the Rattlers in the 18th minute just after Arthur-Dede saw the first chance for the Hounds with a shot in the 10th minute that missed the target wide right. Gregory Franusic and Gabriel Peres recorded the remainder of Eastern New Mexico’s three first-half shots as St Mary’s took a 1-0 advantage into the halftime break.

Eastern continued to press throughout the early stages of the second half, but ultimately saw the advantage extended to 2-0 when the Rattlers put away their second goal of the contest in the 81st minute.

Keeper Ross Dalton recorded four saves and faced 16 total shots as the Rattlers outscored Eastern by a final total of 16-to-7. The Hounds were extremely accurate on their chances throughout the match as five of their seven shots were on target.

Eastern New Mexico will make the journey west to Laredo to take on Texas A&M-International on Saturday before returning home on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. against UT-Permian Basin.
