The Eastern New Mexico softball team dropped the final game of a three-game series to No. 11 Texas A&M-Kingsville 9-1 on Saturday afternoon.
The Javelinas bats were hot right out of the gate, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the first on a two RBI single by Anastacia Leibas to take the early 2-0 edge.
Following a Jennifer McElroy leadoff walk in the top of the second, Kayla Marshall pushed McElroy across home plate four batters later on an RBI single up the middle to cut the deficit to 2-1.
However, Eastern could not cool down the Javelinas as they scored seven unanswered runs over the final four innings to pull away with the 9-1 win.
Kingsville tallied their nine runs on 14 hits without committing an error while the Hounds scored their run on four hits and committed just one error.
Marshall, Emma Gary, Karina Moreno, and Parker Smith each tallied a hit for the Hounds’ bats while Kimberly Herron took the loss in the circle in her start, giving up four earned runs on four hits with a pair of walks and a strikeout in 1.1 innings.
The Hounds will look to snap a nine game losing streak on Tuesday as they will return home to take on Lubbock Christian in a non-conference doubleheader. The first game of the series is slated for a 3 p.m. start at Greyhound Softball Field.
