DENTON, TEXAS — Mirka Zamarripa had the first shot on goal for the Eastern New Mexico University women’s soccer team (3-7-5; LSC 2-4-3) with less than eight minutes to play in the first half. The Hounds would not have another until Ariel Lopez tallied the game-tying goal in Friday night’s Lone Star Conference match at Texas Woman’s (4-7-4; LSC 1-5-3). The teams played to a stalemate which ended in a double-overtime 1-1 tie at TWU Soccer Field.
The tie gave the Hounds (9 points) a point in the standings, which keeps them three points ahead of the Pioneers (6 points) for fifth place in the LSC standings and six ahead of UT Permian Basin (3 points). With three matches left, Eastern trails fourth-place West Texas A&M (15 points) by six points.
