Eastern New Mexico Director of Athletics, Dr. Paul Weir recently announced a multi-year contract extension for Greyhound Football Head Coach Tye Hiatt.

“Coach Hiatt has done nothing but impress us with his class, dedication, and expertise. Greyhound Football is synonymous with the brand of our great institution and it is our duty to represent it with the upmost of success. This new contract is a symbol of our belief in him. We look forward to watching him build our football program while in turn providing him with the resources and tools to make that happen,” said Weir.

Hiatt was named the head coach of the Greyhounds in April 2021 after a successful stint as the offensive coordinator at NCAA Division II Shepherd University.

“I want to thank President Caldwell and Dr. Weir for their confidence in me and our coaching staff. My family and I are so thankful for Eastern New Mexico University and the surrounding community. The support of Greyhound Football from our alumni, Greyhound Club, and University has been great,” said Hiatt.

In Hiatt’s first season with the Hounds, he led the team to wins over Adams State University, Lincoln University (Calif.), Western New Mexico University, and North American University. Eastern also took No. 15 nationally-ranked Midwestern State University to a thrilling overtime battle.

Several student-athletes picked up post-season awards. Senior Justin Manyweather was named Lone Star Conference Receiver of the Year, while sophomore Mazin Richards earned LSC Defensive Lineman of the Year. Manyweather and Richards also earned First Team All-Conference honors. Joining them on the All-Conference list were Vili Fisiiahi (Second Team Offense), Howard Russell (Honorable Mention), and Cameron Santa Cruz (Honorable Mention). Eastern also saw offensive lineman, Hunter St. John earn the first CoSIDA Academic All-District nod for the program since 2010.

The Greyhounds have been working hard in the offseason with spring practice set to start on March 30. Eastern is also looking forward to announcing its incoming singing class on National Signing Day on February 2.

“Our coaching staff will continue to work day and night to build upon the great tradition of Greyhound Football. With signing day approaching and winter workouts underway, our team is anxious to get back on the field,” Hiatt said.
