Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together? Community members were like some crazy A-Team segment for the past week and a half – everyone had their part of the plan.  It started with a Facebook post from Beverly Bennett on the HGTV Hometown Takeover contest and it just took off like a tumble weed traveling through town.

A couple of community meetings at Bill Hendrickson’s office – a group of amazing volunteers all jumped in and songs were written, signs were printed up, people were interviewed, drones were flown, video was shot all over town and of course the weather turned cold and windy but it was all done in spite of the weather!

There were so many that helped but there are a special few that really went above and beyond ;   Cozetta at The Print Shop for 200 signs,  REA – Eric Segovia for the drone footage, Sara Hunton,  Mrs. McKinney for organizing 415 kids (whew),  Micah Thompson,  Betty Williamson,  Sheryl Borden, Jason & Kayla Paulk the singing (watch the video)  the super amazing work of Shawn Carter, Payton Santillanes a senior in the Portales High School Media Arts Program for shooting hours of video – Allan Crawford KENW TV for spending hours putting it all together in the most perfect way possible!

On Friday morning Allan Crawford hit the up-load button to the HGTV site and the entry for Pick Us-Pick Portales became official!

All that is left to do is for HGTV to Pick Us! I hope we win but even if we don’t it was worth all the work to remind us all that there is so much in this community to be grateful for.  Sure we have more than our fair share of potholes, those three or four old grouches and some shabby places that we wish would get cleaned up but we found so much good to talk about and were reminded how good hearted and WOW-talented our people are!  In the meantime, It was great fun and Thank You to everyone.
