Friend,
While the pandemic has upended the lives of every New Mexican and American, the Navajo Nation has been especially hard hit by the crisis.
In fact, the Navajo Nation has one of the highest per capita COVID-19 infection rates in the country, and Native Americans make up nearly 40% of cases in New Mexico.
What’s more, health officials predict that the worst is yet to come for the Navajo Nation, with a peak expected in mid-May. As explained in Las Cruces Sun News, stopping the spread of the virus has been a challenge: “We’re encouraging hand-washing and good hygiene, and we have 30% of homes that unfortunately don’t have running water. We’re asking social distancing. And we have multi-generation families all living in the same house.”
Our neighbors on tribal lands urgently need our help. That’s why the Navajo Nation set up an official COVID-19 Relief Fund to help their community respond to the pandemic.
If you’d like to donate to the Relief Fund, you can do so here: https://www.nndoh.org/donate.html
Thank you so much for considering the needs of our friends and neighbors on tribal lands. Any amount you can give is greatly appreciated and will help limit the devastating impact of the virus on the Navajo Nation.
We’re all in this together,
Valerie
